Tovino Thomas's Tharangam Movie Review
Tovino Thomas’ latest outing Tharangam is a crime-comedy with some interesting fantasy elements in it. Actor Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films is making their entry to Mollywood with this movie. With some impressive promos and songs, Tharangam managed to grab the audience attention before it’s release.
The core plot of Tharangam is centred around two policemen- Padmanabhan (Tovino Thomas) and Joy (Balu Varghese). These two naïve policemen take part in an unauthorized mission, upon the instruction of their superior, to track down a gang of smugglers. Unfortunately, a police officer gets killed which results in the suspension of Pappan and Joy from the force. Rest of the story evolves as they get involved in a series of events which finally lands them in a chaotic culmination.
As a director, debutant Dominic Arun has managed to stamp an uniqueness throughout the film. After a very interesting first half, the movie loses pace in the latter and hence has an inconsistent nature. The usage of dark comedy and fantasy elements are commendable. The movie has a whole lot of characters who are connected to each other in some way or the other.
Dominic and his co-writer Anil Narayanan have done a good job with the screenplay but one clearly feels the lack of clarity in the proceedings. The series of events are laced in such a way that it demands the viewers attention and ends up as an engaging watch through most part of its run time. In a recent interview with us, the director had said that he was inspired from Priyadarshan and Siddique-Lal movies and we can clearly see that in the way certain sequences are staged in Tharangam.
Performance wise Tovino Thomas, Balu Varghese and the two female leads-Santhy Balachandran & Neha Iyer-have played their parts well. Tovino Thomas once again brings his comic side with a charming performance. Neha Iyer was superb as the bold and commanding Omana Varghese; special mention to the dubbing artist also. The dusky beauty Santhy had very few scenes to show her acting skills, but she managed to justify her casting even with the limited screen time. Tharangam boasts of an elaborate supporting cast which includes actors like Manoj K Jayan, Dileesh Pothan, Saiju Kurup, Vijayaraghavan, Shammy Thilakan, Sijoy Varghese and a host of other newcomers.
Most of the technicians in Tharangam are youngsters and that freshness is there to be seen. Deepak D Menon’s cinematography and the colour patterns was highly impressive, so was Ashwin Renju’s funky music.
With an unique style of treatment and good performances, Tharangam is a commendable effort coming from a team of youngsters.
Udaharanam Sujatha Review
Our Lady Superstar Manju Warrier's Udaharanam Sujatha projects towards the audience, along with the strong theme that circumstances and life situations should never decide anyone's future.
Directed by debutante Phantom Praveen, Udaharanam Sujatha means 'the example of Sujatha' and the movie is a remake of the Hindi movie Nil Battey Sannatta which has also been remade in Tamil as Amma Kanakku. Charlie director Martin Prakat and actor Joju George produces the movie for the debutante who has worked as assistant/associate director in the movies Mariyam Mukku, Charlie, Kochavva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho and Sakhavu.
Udaharanam Sujatha is all about Sujatha, a domestic help whose sole dream is her daughter's bright future. Her daughter Athira, on the other hand, does not see any brightness in her future and feels that it would be better to end up as a domestic help like her mother. Sujatha takes shifts at many houses, does odd jobs at various small-scale industries to accumulate the money required to put Athira through college. But Athira's lack of interest in studies forces Sujatha to join her school as a student in the tenth grade. The following events, filled with emotional and heart touching moments, and a pinch of humour form the plot of the movie.
Praveen has succeeded in evoking a detailed and lively picture of the life of a domestic help/single mother who struggles to bring up her child and make both ends meet. Moreover, he has succeeded in conveying every emotion and creating tearjerkers with conviction and involvement. The screenplay has been written beautifully and has a natural Malayaliness to it.
As the title suggests, Manju Warrior is in every electron of Udaharanam Sujatha. In a deglamorized look, wearing low-priced sarees, she delivers a subtle and well-polished performance. Anashwara Rajan, the debutante who plays Sujatha's daughter Athira matches up-to-the highly experienced and talented Manju Warrier with her natural and raw acting. Joju George adds subtle and gentle humour with his mannerisms as the headmaster of the school Athira and Sujatha go to. Veteran actor Nedumudi Venu gives a refined portrayal as George Paul, an employer, mentor and confidante of Sujatha, while Mamta Mohandas does a beautiful and simple cameo.
Perfect cuts by Mahesh Narayan, revitalizing and invigorating music by Gopi Sunder and the simple yet beautiful frames which have the beauty of the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram in its soul makes the movie a delightful, uplifting and gladsome watch.
The screenplay is by Martin Prakkat and Naveen Bhaskaran. The background music gels well with the tempo of the narrative and the songs by Gopi Sundar are captivating. The cinematography is by Madhu Neelakandan and Mahesh Narayanan's taut editing lends the movie a smooth flow. It's indeed a movie that you would love to watch once again.

Ramaleela Review
Ramaleela is the political thriller, which features Dileep in the lead role. The movie is directed by newcomer Arun Gopy and scripted by writer-director Sachy. Ramaleela is produced by Tomichan Mulakupadam, under the banner Mulakupadam Films.
Ramanunni is the son of Sakhavu Ragini, a veteran politician who is a strong follower of Communist ideologies. He is an advocate by profession, but enters the politics and soon becomes an MLA by using his abilities.
But, he gets thrown out of his party and loses his position, after his rivals frame him with a fake allegation. How Ramanunni wins back his lost fame and position, thickens the plot of Ramaleela
Dileep has delivered a matured, controlled performance as Ramanunni, and shined in emotional sequences. This is the movie which made use of the actor in Dileep to fullest, after a very long time.
Radhika Sarathkumar makes a grand comeback to Mollywood, by playing the role of Ramanunni's mother Sakhavu Ragini. The senior actress simply outshined her co-actors, especially in the emotional sequences.
Siddique, who played the delivered a brilliant peformance as Udayabanu, a politician. The rest of the star cast, including Vijayaraghavan, Renji Panicker, Ashoka, Saikumar, Salim Kumar, Lena, Kalabhavan Shahjohn, Anil Murali, etc., have played their parts to near perfection.
Prayaga Martin, the young actress has done a decent job as Helena, a journalist. Even though her role was minimal, the actress has succeeded in making a mark.
Direction: Arun Gopy
Arun Gopy makes an excellent debut by delivering a decent political thriller. The movie makes a perfect watch for all types of audiences. The flawless narrative which effectively depicts an engaging story is the main plus point.
The director has made use of his actors, especially the lead actor Dileep, in the best way. Arun Gopy is definitely here to stay.
The highly effective plot has been narrated through an engaging screenplay, without any visible flaws.
The biggest plus point is that there are absolutely no forced comedies in the movie. The situational comical sequences are perfectly placed. Kudos to the writer.
Verdict
Ramaleela is definitely an engaging film without a single minute of boredom. Undoubtedly, the best political thriller of recent times.
SPYder Review
Superstar Mahesh Babu and A R Murugadoss’s much-awaited spy thriller, SPYder has hit the screens worldwide yesterday , Lets read the Movie Review.
Story:
Shiva(Mahesh Babu) is a phone tapping agent in the Information Bureau who is keen on solving public issues. When everything seems to be going fine with his job, Mahesh comes across two mysterious deaths and takes up the challenge of finding the person behind it. Who is this serial killer? Why is he committing all these crimes? and How does Shiva nab him at the end is the rest of the story.
Plus Points:
Undoubtedly, Mahesh is the biggest asset for the film. His screen presence and intense acting will impress the audience completely. Mahesh’s dedication and determination are clearly visible on screen through his fights and performance. He has carried the entire film on his shoulders.
Coming to SJ Surya, he will definitely stun the audience with his brilliant performance as a sadist. He is so perfect for the role and leaves you quite im pressed. All his confrontation scenes with Mahesh have been executed quite well. The first half is pretty good and has some very interesting racy moments.
Yet another major highlight of the film is an intriguing long episode in the second half where ladies nab Surya. Intelligent and fast-paced narration in this particular sequence will thrill the audience. The background score of the film is pretty impressive and elevates the film decently.
Minus Points:
The film takes its own sweet time to enter into the main story which is one of the drawbacks. The three songs which come in the first half are like speed breakers for the film. Also, the costumes designed for Mahesh in these songs are below average.
Rakul Preet looks tired and jaded as her makeup and performance are not up to the mark. She is hardly seen in two or three scenes in the second half. Even though SJ Surya’s childhood scenes are good, there is a lot of Tamil flavor which may not appeal to Telugu audience.
Too many cinematic liberties have been taken in Spyder. The technology used looks a bit over the top and is too much in support of the hero. Certain logics like how Surya escapes from jail and plants bombs all over have been missed completely.
Technical Aspects:
Editing work by A Sreekar Prasad is good. Cinematography by top-notch technician Santosh Sivan is okay. Music by Harris Jayraj is below par. Production Values for this high budget entertainer are very rich and on high standards. The graphics used, especially for the rock episode looks below par.
Coming to the director Murugadoss, he has done a decent job with the film. Even though he has picked up a routine story, the way he has narrated it clicks with Spyder. He adds good racy elements during the first half but slightly dips in his execution during the later part. Had he made the film crisp and decreased the runtime a bit, the effect would have been even better.
Verdict:
On the whole, Spyder is a decent action thriller which has some very interesting moments. Mahesh Babu’s rocking performance and Surya’s menacing act will surely impress you. But as the film has a routine and serious storyline, the class audience will lap it up but the mass audience might find it a bit difficult to digest. Also, the climax is weak and hurried up. If you are okay with the above-said things, then Spyder will entertain you this weeke

The massively viral number has come a full circle, as the original Velipadinte Pusthakam rounded off the innumerable spin-offs with a new rendition of their own, led by none other than Lalettan.
It all started on August 22, when the official Facebook page for Velipadinte Pusthakam introduced a Jimikki Dance Challenge, with the winners promised a chance to perform with the original Jimikki Kammal team.
With the challenge ending on September 19, the original team, including actors Arun Kurian and Sharath Kumar, got together for the promised final video.

Spyder director AR Murugadoss: Ready to make a movie with both Vijay and Mahesh Babu
AR Murugadoss is extremely tensed yet excited as his upcoming film, Spyder, starring Mahesh Babu is just three days away from release. However, when asked if he thinks he is ready to cast two superstars - Vijay and Mahesh Babu - together in a Tamil film, the director said, 'I am ready'.
Mahesh Babu’s debut in Tamil film has already made his fans extremely excited about the upcoming film, Spyder, which is going to have a billingual release on September 27. At a press conference in Chennai, the entire team of the film got together and expressed how the film is special for each one of them. However, at a point AR Murugadoss expressed his nervousness about the project but also said that he is confident that he has been able to put his best foot forward as a director.
“I can hear my own heartbeat, with the release in three days. I have worked to my best for this movie. Every director wants to give something new and I started with the same motion and I believe I have managed to do it,” the director said.
He continued on his choice of casting Mahesh in the film, “I have been wanting to work with Mahesh for long. Heroism is very natural when he does it, that’s a quality I really like. We need heroism on screen for a mass film, but the balance is also equally important. My son after fives years shouldn’t ask me why I have done a movie like this. The movie should feel good even after a few years. There is a need to make movies like that and Mahesh is a perfect fit. Making a bilingual is a very challenging task and I have to thank Mahesh for his co-operation.”
When questioned if he would like to collaborate with Tamil superstar Vijay and Mahesh for a project in future, AR Murugadoss replied with much confidence that he is ready for such a film. But he also explained his struggle, “I am ready to make a movie with both Vijay and Mahesh Babu but the screen space should be apt. We don’t know the response we would get if Mahesh Babu has two songs in Tamil and two songs for Vijay in Telugu. But I would be happy to do it.”
Rakul Preet, who is working with both the director and actor for the first time, said that this project is nothing less than a dream come true for her. She said, “I’m really happy to be coming back to Tamil films with this movie. My character is of Charlie, a very clumsy but sweet character.”

Parava Movie Review

Magalir Mattum Review
MAGALIR MATTUM REVIEW.
Jyothika reunites three older women who have been separated since college and takes them on a trip.
The events that transpire through the journey and how the lives of the women have changed over the years and how they are treated by their family members form the rest of the story.
The movie’s hero is the story and is strongly carried by Bhanu Priya, Saranya Ponvannan and Oorvasi. Jyothika more or less acts as a catalyst in the movie who takes the plot forward. But she has done justice to the role.
Director Bramma has extracted the best from all the characters. The female leads in the movie have atleast one scene to showcase their talent and make a mark with the audience.
The director has succeeded in conveying the message he wanted to do. A few strong dialogues explain the suffering of the women after marriage and how their freedom is restricted.
Feminist, filmi and feel-good, that's Magalir Mattum. The film never shies away from wearing its feminist credentials and repeatedly points out how women and their dreams get trapped in the "maayajaala jail" called marriage
On the flip side, the men in the movie have very little do. However, considering that it is a women centric movie this can be ignored.
The film manages to walk a fine middle ground between lecturing and showing us the inequality that exists in our society. It is also not blatantly manipulative, and the emotional moments show us that its heart is in the right place (Ghibran's punchy songs and score keeps letting us know that the intention is to celebrate women).
The actors are all endearing, and the chemistry between the three senior actresses especially (their characters mirror the onscreen personas we have come to associate with them) easily conveys that they could have been thick friends in the past. And Jyotika, who looks younger, never oversells Prabha. Both she and Bramma realise that the real protagonists here are the three women and keep Prabha from dominating the film.
In one scene, Rani remarks that she hoped that she would at least be a supporting character in her own story, but that was not to be. However, Jyotika and Bramma show that it is possible for every woman to be a heroine! This is also their biggest achievement.

Thupparivaalan Movie Review
Vishal's Thupparivaalan Review.
Kollywood Actor
Vishal Most Awaited Film Thupparivaalan hits the sliver screens on today.
This Film is Directed
by Mysskin and Produced by Vishal under Vishal Film Factory
Banner.
Film Features Anu Emmanuel, VishalKrishna in prominent roles. The cast also includes
Vinay Rai , Andrea Jeremiah. Arrol Corelli as
the music composer, forming part of the crew.
Actor Vinay Rai and
director Bhagyaraj will be the leading antagonists in the film. Anu Emmanuel
will play a pickpocket and Andrea will also have an important role to play.
Vishal is confident this film will take him too new heights and he hopes to
sign many more projects with Mysskin. What if a trademark Mysskin protagonist meets Benedict
Cumberbatch (Holmes)? That is how Vishal’s character sketch looks to have been
framed. He wears a sober face and has a wacky mannerism. You could probably see
a lot of Mysskin in Vishal. It is a difficult role to pull off, and Vishal has
done full justice to it.
Bhagyaraj gets to don a completely different role to what we
have seen him do over the years, and he has one or two scoring situations to showcase
his talent. Prasanna as Vishal's friend comes throughout the film and has
supported the lead well. Actors like Simran, Jayaprakash and Aadukalam Naren
come and go to infuse tension elements to the script.
We know Mysskin films are emotion driven and he really stamps
his class when he perfectly knits a clever crime plot along with an impactful
sentimental subplot. But Mysskin has tried his hands on a full-on commercial
film here. It is more on suspense and less on emotional quotient. So it doesn’t
convey the much-needed pain. You don’t feel excited or sorry for any of the
characters which distance yourself from getting attached to the script.
The action scenes were very well constructed. There are 3 to
4 solid action blocks that could go well with the masses. The love portions may
not work for some since it is between 2 weird characters that you don’t get to
see often. The cinematography and music go hand in hand to uplift Mysskin’s
vision.
Thupparivaalan is a mainstream product that keeps the audiance at bay from the word go with plenty of suspenceful moments. But at one stage , few could vaguely understand where the plot is heading , and from there on, it might look less engaging , But climax balances it in the end
This Film is Directed by Mysskin and Produced by Vishal under Vishal Film Factory Banner.
