Masterpiece, the biggest release of the season is all set to take over the big screens in Kerala, from today (December 21, 2017). Starring Megastar Mammootty in the lead role, Masterpiece, which has been tagged as an out-and-out mass entertainer, is definitely high on expectations
Masterpiece is yet another piece of vibrant acting from Mammootty with a mass character. The movie directed by Ajay Vasudev stands apart from all those campus movies we have seen so far. It is because its different way of approach to the story and here the hero is not one among the student but the professor who is above all the students. The elements of mass are well explored throughout the movie and the director needs a special applause for it. The prominent element of the movie is that it is a thriller.
The Plot of Masterpiece is set against the backdrop of a college campus . This campus has its own share of problems created by rival groups. Meanwhile , 2 deaths happen in the premises, which shake the entire college . Here Edward Livingston an english professor enter , and he is all set to bring a proper order to the college campus. What happens rest has been narrated in Masterpiece.
Mammootty is always known for his mass look and the vibrant roles and the movie Masterpiece is the new addition to it. He absolutely mazes with his look and mass fights.
Unni Mukundan is yet another mass character in the movie who essays the role of a police officer named John Thekkan. There is no doubt that the Police Uniform suits for him very well. His role has great involvement in the story and he does his part well.
Masterpiece has three female leads with different roles but the element of romance paves its way more for the core of the story which is not romance. Romance is there because it’s a campus! Varalakshmi Sarathkumar joins with Mammootty after her antagonist role in Kasaba. She comes as Bhavani Durga, a police officer and she does justice wither bold role. The pretty girl Poonam Bajwa’s role as college professor Smitha is also impressive. Mahima Nambiar makes her second Malayalam movie more memorable with a good character. The element of part is well handled by Santhosh Pandit who makes his entry into the mainstream cinema mass. His role as Sankarankutty, the college peon was received with a big applause by all. Mukesh as Vice Principal, Gokul Suresh as Unnikrishnan, MAqbool Salman as Mahesh Raj, Sunil Sukhada, Manikkuttan, Anjali Nair, David John, Arjun Nadhakumar, Kailash, Divyadarshan and all those who in this long list of cast have contributed their part to the perfection of the story.
Masterpiece focuses on its essential storyline even though it has importance for the mass. The tagline ‘Master of Masses’ is highly relevant to the movie and whole cast and crew did justice to the tagline. What the public had expected from the movie is gifted by the team and big round of applause to Uday Krishna for his second independent script after Pulimurugan.
The writer was successful on audience being engaged throughout the movie. Deepak Dev’s songs and the vibrant background music made the experience of the mass an exceptional one. Vinod Illampally’s camera work is praiseworthy and the apt cuts by Johnkutty made Masterpiece massive. Masterpiece is a complete entertainer in which you would get what is expected from a mass movie. It’s a mass entertainer.
