Mohanlal’s Odiyan shooting begins, filmmakers promise a ‘treat for audience’.
The shooting of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal’s Odiyan was kick-started in Varanasi on Saturday. Director VA Shrikumar Menon had been scouting for locations along with his team in Banaras for the last couple of weeks.
Mohanlal plays the last surviving member of a tribal community called Odiyan in Kerala that lived in Palakkad-Malabar region. “Odiyan is a different entertainment film. A person can transform into an animal. It’s a trick. It will be a treat for the audience,” the 57-year-old actor said while talking about his film earlier. The members of the Odiyan community made a living by scaring people in the dark for others.
Shrikumar had revealed that the protagonist of the film “Odiyan Manickan” lived in the spiritual capital of India, Banaras, for 15 years before he returned to Thenkurissi in Kerala. Art director Prasanth Madhav will also be recreating Thenkurissi village for the shooting.
Renowned fight-master Peter Hein will be choreographing the action sequences. He was also part of the team that was hunting for locations in Kasi. Previously, Peter has choreographed action sequences for Mohanlal in the blockbuster film Pulimurugan and he has also worked in upcoming film Villain. Peter is also aboard for Mohanlal’s ambitious project The Mahabharata, which is the pipeline.
According to reports, the film will have five action sequences and Shrikumar has promised that action will be one of the highlights of the film. And it will also have a lot of special effects.
Odiyan has already created a lot of expectations with the motion poster that went viral last month. Mohanlal will, reportedly, lose up to 15 kg for the role.
Odiyan is produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas. National Award-winning scriptwriter Harikrishnan has penned the script for the film and the production design will be done by Sabu Cyril, while Shaji Kumar will crank the camera for the film. Composer M Jayachandran will score music for the film.
Manju Warrier plays the female lead, while Prakash Raj will also be seen in an important role.
Mohanlal, who is currently holidaying in Bhutan, will join the sets of Odiyan soon. He is awaiting the release of Velipadinte Pusthakam, which is set to hit the screens during Onam.

Lechmi, the horror comedy movie scripted and directed by B N
Sajeer Shah is a romp into the lives of a select group of individuals. Parvathi
Ratheesh appears in the lead role along with cine artist Biju Sopanam also
donning a pivotal role. The movie revolves around four bachelors. The story
follows an incident that leads to unforeseen and dramatic changes in their
lives. The director B.N. Shajeer Sha has incorporated lots of comical elements
which will be both an entertaining thing and also a heartbeat raiser.
The performance given by Parvathi Ratheesh’s mature enough
and energetic and will definitely draw us closer to her and above everything
the movie’s core. Actor Biju Sopanam who became dear to the Malayali audience
though his tele show appears in a pivotal role in Lechmi. He gave a natural
enough performance and made the viewers stick on to their seats till the very
end. The other actors like Manav, Sethu lakshmi, Polokko, Molly Kannamaly,
Master Faras, Master Jiyas, Vaiga, Deepu Parassala, B N Shabeer, and Sreekutty
presented their characters decently enough.
When it comes to the technicality, the film does justice to
its theme of it being a movie belonging to the horror genre. The cinematography
has been handled by Ranjith Murali and he has succeeded in capturing the eerie
atmosphere of the movie. What makes the visuals more thrilling is the
background score which easily intertwines with it. The music department was
managed by Dheeraj Sukumaran and the songs are pretty much up to the standard.
The edits have been done by Suhas Rajendran and the cuts made the film
interesting to watch till the end without any kind of a drag.

Vivegam is an over-the-top but engaging action thriller
with a calculated mix of brawn and brain, action and sentiment, smartly
pandering to fans while giving families something to connect with. Right from
the moment the film begins, it is all about one man, Ajay Kumar or AK (Ajith
Kumar). Once the head of a counter-terrorism squad, AK is now most wanted by
the intelligence agencies after his daring strike on a terrorist outfit gives him a hard drive containing codes to launch a nuclear weapon. Assembled to
track him down are his former team mates, his friend Aryan Singha (Vivek Anand
Oberoi), Mike (Serge Crozon), Rachael (Amila Terzimehic) and Shawn (Arav
Chowdharry).
Director Siva and Ajith, in their third consecutive
collaboration, go all out to present a film on an international scale and
going by the standards they've set, it's truly remarkable. The attempt is
ambitious and the team's effort is commendable, but what's the point of all
this hard work when it is not backed by an engaging story. Despite going
international, in terms of scale and vision, Siva's filmmaking style is still
loud and over-the-top mostly. It defeats the whole purpose of giving the story
an international touch.
Action is what Vivegam promises and it is what the film
offers — bangs for every buck. And Ajith takes it upon himself to single
handedly provide plenty of mass-hero moments (a shirt-ripping, six-pack
showcasing climactic moment is a particular highlight) and innumerable punch
dialogues (Jaikaradhukku munnadi kondadradhum jaichadhukku aprom aadradhum
namma agaradhilaye illa).
Vivek Oberoi, who appears in stylish attire, is often used to
hype up AK (or rather Ajith), giving fans plenty of whistle-worthy moments in
the first half. However, the dubbing for the actor gives the film a dubbed-film
feel. Kajal, as the wife who pines for her husband and also proves to be his
biggest strength, is quite likeable, while Akshara Haasan, for whom this marks
her Tamil debut, acquits herself well in what is essentially an extended cameo
role.
Director Siva sticks to his filmmaking style of ramped-up
visuals and hyper-editing, and it does take some time to get used to the rhythm
of the film, which is way over the top of over-the-top. It even feels like an
assault on our senses, initially. Plus, the scenes involving white people
talking in Tamil is quite comical. But once the film gets into flashback mode
to narrate the mission to capture Natasha, things starts to get engaging.
Karunakaran, who appears in these portions, acts as a good comic relief. The
stunts, too, are exciting enough to keep us hooked.
In a surprisingly good role, Kajal Aggarwal
plays her part aptly. She plays Ajith's wife and their chemistry works well, Akshara is introduced as the
widely popular hacker, and she is wanted by the Interpol.
The film really takes off in the second half, by when we have
gotten used to its loudness. And Anirudh's electric (and again, loud) score
lends punch to the proceedings. We also get a formidable antagonist, a
friend-turned-foe, whom AK has to take down and stop mass destruction. The
battle between them is largely one of wits and it is these moves and
counter-moves that give the film its rush.
Ajith's physical transformation deserves special praise, and
he has worked really hard, despite shooting in extreme climatic conditions. He
carries the film on his shoulders and turns in a never seen before kind of
performance.
Ajith'sVivegamwill have a big opening in Kerala too, in fact, it is going to be his biggest ever.
It is slated to release in over 300+ screens, which is a pretty huge number for any star.
Meanwhile here is one video that proves the craze that Ajith has in Kerala. Check out this video where Ajith fans are waiting in a long queue to buyVivegamtickets at a theatre in Kerala in spite of heavy rain.
We know that Sushant Singh Rajput is all set to do India's second space-based movie. Space genre in Indian cinema is completely new until Jayam Ravi announced his Tik Tik Tik. The next to experiment this genre is Sushant Singh and Madhavan, who announced that they will be doing a space-based film titled 'Chanda Mama Door Ke.'
Sushant even underwent a training session in NASA to do complete justice to his astronaut role in the film. The recent development of the project is that Madhavan is now heading to NASA to undergo similar astronaut training for the film.
'Chanda Mama Door Ke' is about two astronauts who visit space, and the movie's plot is believed to be very impactful. The makers of the film recently said that they are leaving no stone unturned to make this film one of Bollywood's prestigious films.
Thalapathy Vijay’s “Mersal”, the audio launch was held in a grand manner at the Nehru Stadium in Chennai. Mersal movie features three heroines – Samantha, Kajal Aggarwal and Nithya Menen. ‘Mersal’ has been produced by Thenandal Studio Limited. From SJ Suryah to Dhanush, many were present at the Mersal Audio grand launch.
Movies with the backdrop of films are not new to Malayalee audiences. In fact, we have seen a handful of attempts in the recent past itself. Then, what makes ‘Honey Bee 2.5’ different from the rest? Simply the fact, that the movie is shot in link with the actual shooting location of another film, which got released earlier this year. A journey through the life of an aspiring actor, ‘Honey Bee 2.5’ has successfully showcased the struggles, which the central character has undergone, in a struggling manner.
Vishnu (Askar Ali) has always wanted to enter the world of film. Well, he is not having a very conducive environment around him – something which pulls him aback from reaching his goal. Having lost some opportunities to act, Vishnu reaches the set of ‘Honey Bee 2’ in search of an opportunity. Meanwhile Kanmani (Lijo Mol), the makeup artist of actress Bhavana in the set of ‘Honey Bee 2’, lands into his life. Innocent though, her character is the one, which gives confidence to Vishnu. In fact, she is the one, who instills a fresh lease of energy in Vishnu, thereby helping him materializing his dreams.
As we are already informed that this movie is an experimental one in nature, director Shyju Anthikkad however preferred to incorporate many elements of conventional films; rather we should say ‘commercial films’. Right from the initial hours, ‘Honey Bee 2.5’ shows us that Vishnu’s character is an archetype of a struggling young man. He is from a village, he is innocent, and he belongs to a middle class family, wherein his mother and sister support his wishes. Well, he is a man, whom we have seen thousand times – both on and off the big screen.
However, it is interesting to see the journey of our hero in line with the all the prototypes, which the director has conferred him with. Yes, even with the imperfections of a rather shabby dubbing and inactive facial expressions, Askar Ali displayed all the characteristics of an amateur actor, whose actions spoke better than words. That is why the comic moments intended to evoke laugher indeed laughs you, even though the word comedy has nothing to do with it. In fact, movie actually shows you how much the makers have struggled while materializing their project. We don’t like it, but it is a damn truth, that 99 percent of aspiring actors, end up falling flat on their journey.
Meanwhile, more than the way the story is narrated, ‘Honey Bee 2.5’ needs to be applauded for the way the actors have performed. Well, we don’t need to mention about the popular faces, which are actually part of another movie. Coming to the performance of the rest (putting Askar aside, as we have mentioned it earlier), we have Lijo Mol making a strong presence felt throughout the movie.
Well, we all know that she is a decent actor, for whom acting comes naturally. Lijo Mol once again did a good job in bringing life to her character. A whole lot of unknown artists appear in the movie and have made their part perfect.
Prabhas’s phenomenal growth in terms of his star value, owes much to the magnum opus of Rajamouli The ‘Baahubali’ series. The movie has catapulted Prabhas to national stardom with which he could now beat that of any other Tollywood stars. We are talking about the remuneration package being offered to ‘Darling’ by the makers of ‘Saaho’. Reportedly, Prabhas is been offered a whopping INR 30 Cr, plus share of profit for this action entertainer.
Now that figure edges out two of the highest paid stars in Tollywood Mahesh Babu and Pawan Kalyan. While Mahesh uses to get around INR 25 Cr for a movie, Pawan is drawing nearly INR 40 Cr from a project. With Prabhas also getting the option of profit share, the actual take home salary slip of ‘Baahubali’ star will definitely outrun that of Pawan’s.
E stands as one of the best horror thrillers the industry have seen recently. The movie is directed by Kukku Surendran. Popular Director Sangeeth Sivan, who had directed the movies like Yodha, Nirnayam and Gandharvam is one of the producers of the movie along with Amin Surani. The movie is special to Malayalees as their favourite actress Gauthami makes a come back to Mollywood through ‘E’. E is a super-natural thriller, a genre that is relatively unexplored in Malayalam. The film is about how a mysterious event from the past comes to haunt Malathi Menon (Gautami) and unveils a secret. The film stars mostly newcomers.
E is about human relationships – such as a mother’s love for her child, friendship, the beginning of a relationship, and the end of a relationship. This movie is based on true events and it revolves around the characters named Karthik and Malathi Menon. Karthik makes a documentary on Alzheimer’s disease and Malathi Mebon is his subject. Malathi is living with her daughter named Athira and Karthik and his team comes there. There they notice the unexplainable behaviour of Malathi where she starts speaking primeval languages and starts scrawling on certain pictures as well. Then some evil things begins to happen with Malathi and later they comes to know that it is not Alzheimer’s disease but some evil spirit had taken the control over Malathi. As a horror film, E is not without its share of jumps. Gautami, at any rate, looks super creepy nomadic around in her night-gown. The film fits to her and she nails the part.
E with Gautami in the lead role gives the veteran actor the lion’s share of the screen space and it is a joy to watch her mastery over her craft. She’s fenced by a group of young actors who deliver good performances but whenever the camera is on her character Malathi Menon, the Alzheimer patient who is increasingly turning violent, Gautami owns the scene. She’s capable of drawing out tears and frightening you in equivalent quantities. When the young team making a documentary film on Alzheimer patients asks her to speak of her know-how, Malathi says she knows she’s fighting a battle she will eventually lose…but that her greatest fear is forgetting her daughter Adhira (Nithya Naresh). It could have been one of those sweet ‘mother sentiment’ moments that we’ve seen one too many times for it to really have an impact but there’s something about the way Gautami makes this claim which succeeds in moving the viewer. And it is essential to buy into this strong mother-daughter bond if the rest of the plot is to work. E is not a typical horror movie with stereotyped ghosts and tales of revenge. It is a thriller that unfurls a saga of relationships, love, mythologies, strictures and beliefs intertwined. E has a solid screenplay as the backbone by Rohan Bajaj and Hari Kumar K which succeeds in making the audience to feel the fear. Rahul Raj’s music works apt for the plot and Manoj Pillai has his camera eyes focusing on every tiny things that gives perfection. Ayub Khan brings a final output with his editing and that is what amazes the viewers.
